Who Was Molly McKelvey? Alabama Mom of Three Commits Suicide Hours After Abusive Husband Murdered Baby Daughter

A grieving Alabama mom of three took her own life just hours after her abusive husband killed their 4-month-old baby, police and her family said. Molly McKelvey, 28, died by suicide on April 23, her brother said — just hours after her infant daughter, Lotus McKelvey, died from severe injuries she had allegedly suffered at the hands of her father, Mickele Kaipolai Ah-Nee.

Police in Huntsville responded to an emergency call on April 22 reporting that a baby was not breathing. First responders almost immediately arrived and tried lifesaving measures at the scene before rushing Lotus to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, she was later pronounced dead, according to WAFF.

End of an Unhappy Life

An autopsy later found that the baby died from complications linked to severe internal injuries, though officials have not yet shared further details about the extent of the trauma. Authorities said that Ah-Nee, 34, had been with Lotus when she suddenly stopped breathing.

He was taken into custody on April 23 and is now facing a charge of domestic-violence murder. According to jail records, he is being held on a $250,000 bond as the investigation continues.

On the same day, tragedy struck the family again. McKelvey, who was also a mother to two other children, died by suicide, her older brother revealed.

The devastating sequence of events has left loved ones in shock, as they try to process the loss of both a young child and her grieving mother within just hours of each other.

“There really are no words for having to just first finding out the baby is dead and then the mother commit suicide,” the brother told WAFF.

“It’s like a movie. You hear about this stuff on the news a lot and you just never think it’s going to happen to you, you know?”

Kristian said Molly “was a really awesome little sister,” adding that he is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that he will never get to watch his newborn niece grow up. “She was the happiest little baby I’d ever seen, too. I won’t be able to ever see her grow old,” he told WAFF in an emotional interview.

Family members have started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the funeral costs for both Molly and Lotus.

Their tragic deaths have left friends and loved ones heartbroken and struggling to cope with the overwhelming loss, according to the page.

Molly is survived by her two young sons, Orion and Micah, along with her mother and several siblings who are now mourning her and her baby.
